ASRB – ARS Exam 2015: Application, Selection Procedure & More

Agricultural Scientist Recruitment Board or in short known as the ASRB was constructed on the proposal of the Gajendragadkar Committee whose main motive was to form an agency which will serve the nation in recruitment of personnel’s with adequate knowledge and job profile in the agricultural related sectors and also in the their promotion with proper advices required by the ICAR council. This body conducts entrance examinations or eligibility test at national level for recruitment of proper personnel in State Agricultural Universities for the post of Scientists in Agricultural Research Services. Agricultural Research Services is also called ARS by its short name.

At present, there are no official notification for the year 2015. So we’ll update here for latest notifications or advertisement by ASRB. the following notification is old and expired for the year 2012. But you can check the eligibility criteria, selection procedure, application procedure which may remain same in the year 2015.

The notification to fill up vacant positions of scientists has been issued on 14th Nov, 2012 to held Agricultural Research Service Examination 2012 (ARS Exams 2012).

Number and name of vacancies

The number vacancies available through this board are a total 431 vacancies including reserved seats or quotas for SC, ST, OBC and PC. The above list is also inclusive for physically handicapped people. The posts available are related to various discipline of agricultural science with a total of 36 disciplines. The names of few disciplines are Agriculture Biotechnology, Agriculture Entomology, Agriculture Microbiology, Plant Physiology, Diary Chemistry, Animal Physiology, Poultry Science, Fish Processing Technology, Fish Health, Agroforestry etc.

Age limitation, qualification and experience

Every exam has its own set of criteria and limitations. This Board too has framed rules regarding age limit, qualification and experience of candidates that are eligible for ARS examination. The age limit fixed by this Board is a minimum of 21 years but not more than 32 year which he must have attained as on 01.08.2012. Candidates who are in service and have attained not more than 45 years of age are also eligible provided they possess the approved qualifications. The upper age limit is also relaxed for SC and ST candidate for a maximum of 5 years and for other backward classes the relaxation is maximum 3 years.

As far as educational qualification is concerned, a candidate must possess a Master’s/graduation degree or an equivalent degree in the related discipline with specialization in matter required by the related discipline. Since, there are 36 different disciplines so we can make a mention of only few like for Agricultural Biotechnology a Master’s in Agriculture or Molecular Biology or Biotechnology or Genetic Engineering or Life Science. The degree must be from any recognized Indian University incorporated by an Act established by Central or State Government and he/she must have completed the same on or before 31.10.12.

Selection procedure for ARS Exams 2015

The selection procedure is divided into three segments which can be mentioned as Preliminary Stage, Main (ARS) Stage and Viva-voce. The Preliminary Stage consists of 150 marks examination with 2 hour duration whereas the Main Stage consists of 240 marks paper with duration of 3 hours. The minimum qualifying marks for Preliminary Stage is 60% for General and OBC and 50 % for SC/ST and other backward classes. On the other hand the minimum qualifying marks for Main Stage is 55% for General and OBC and 50% for SC/ST and other backward classes. The candidates who clear Preliminary and Main stage will be eligible for Viva-voce. Candidates clearing all three stages will be eligible to be appointed as a Scientist in the Indian Council for Agricultural Research.

Application procedure for ARS Exam 2015

Any interested candidate may make application I form available at the website of ICAR ( and must fill himself/herself fill it with proper care and diligence in own handwriting. The candidates need not attach any copy of their certificate or mark sheet. It is presumed that the candidates filling the form have fulfilled all the criteria. The form must reach Secretary, Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board, Krishi Anusandhan Bhavan, Pusa, New Delhi-110012 through post or through any person on or before 18.12.2012.

 Important Dates

  • The preliminary examination will be held on 24th Feb, 2013
  • The main examination will be held on 23rd June, 2013.
  • The date for determination of age is 1st Aug, 2012
  • The date for determination of qualification is 31st Oct, 2012
  • The last date to apply for the post 18th Dec, 2012.
