Many students from all around the world build up castles of aspirations about their careers which hover around the word engineering. There are students who from their early childhood builds up a typical mind set about studying engineering. They view engineering as the only way to reach their destination of life or rather as the only way to be successful in their lives. The word engineering is also often associated with the marks of the student. For students who are able to score good marks in their 12th standard, engineering should be treated as one of the options for them to study next. But the real question lies in the fact that whether engineering really requires such attention from such a huge lot of students, their parents, their teachers and from their well wishers. In the present days studying engineering especially in a private college has become very expensive. With the passage of time it is becoming out of the reach for the middle class people. So the actual worth of this course must be judged before enrolling in it.

With the ever increasing interest in engineering from a huge mass of the population, people are discovering more and more new branches of engineering for the students to explore. At present there are about fifteen to sixteen engineering branches that is been offered by various engineering institutes all over the world. Amongst the availability of so many options, it often becomes very confusing for a student to decide which should be the proper or correct selection for him or herself. Moreover during the decision making process, students are overburdened with bunches of advices from various sources. But at the end it should always be the student who should take the final call and so a student must have enough knowledge about most of these branches of engineering before selecting any one particular branch. Production Engineering

One of the most interesting branches of engineering is perhaps the production engineering. There are very few colleges which provide specialization in the production engineering. Production engineering is regarded as balancing discipline between management science and manufacturing technology. This course also overlaps with the industrial engineering. It deals with the planning and implementation of various manufacturing systems. With the advent of modern tools and techniques the designing of various machines are becoming complex and are requiring an expert’s attention. So the role of a production engineer is becoming very crucial in the age of machines. Textile Engineering

Textile technology is the other name for textile engineering which is the study of different measures of science and engineering methodologies. The techniques and principles of the same are then applied to the field of processing and production of various textile materials like fibers, yarns and fabrics. Agricultural Engineering

Agricultural engineering is one of such engineering domain that attaches technology and engineering science with the field of agriculture. It is a combination of plant biology, animal biology, mechanical, civil, chemical and electrical with the vast field of agriculture. The technology applies to the designing of agricultural machinery, structures and other necessary equipment. It studies the internal combustion engines as would be applicable to the agricultural machinery. It teaches as how to effectively and efficiently utilize the agricultural resources like the land, water, seeds, pesticides, machines etc. It can measure the quality, texture and benefit of a particular land and can judge the pattern of crop that can be grown there. The advanced and technical utilization of irrigation is thought by agriculture engineering. As we all know that the conservation of scarce resources like irrigable water and land is essential. Hence, the farmer should know as how to produce more from less. All these techniques are provided by an agriculture engineer to the farmers or any other person concerned with the same. An agriculture engineer assists the farmers in planning, organizing, managing and supervising the building of dairy effluent schemes, drainage, flood, irrigation and other water control systems. They conduct various assessment of the environment, agricultural products, and thus interpret the result and provide the required adjustments.  Usually the agricultural engineers do work in sales, production, applied science and management research and development.

Information Technology

Information technology is the process of applying telecommunication and computer equipments to various place of work or study like offices, store or retrieve to transfer or manipulate data. The term information technology is used to as a synonym for the computer networks or for computers itself. However, apart from these two it also covers technologies like telephones and televisions. The industries which specifically use information technology are computer software, hardware, semi conductors, electronics, e – commerce, telecom equipment and other computer related services. Apart from the general definition, in a normal business parlance IT has been described as the study, development, implementation, design, technology, application, management and support to the computer based information system. In India the industry of Information technology is segregated into two parts viz., business process outsourcing ( BPO ) and IT services. This particular sector has contributed a lot in the development of the country’s GDP. Nanotechnology is the study of molecules, super molecules and atoms. It deals with the manipulation of the matters related with the same. Mining Engineering

Mining Engineering is the technology, science, practice and the application of the extracting and processing techniques to the process of extraction from the nature. After the extraction is done further processing of the extracted product is done so as to make the same more ready for utilization. Every year quite a number of people studies mining engineering get involved with the extraction process. The process involves a parallel work with the geologists. The mining engineers work with the geologists in order to detect the mineral reserves. Then they are required to measure the profitability in conducting the mining process. Further they have to work with great efficiency and care as the process effects the place itself and the surroundings adversely. However, keeping in mind the requirement and the necessities of the modern world it is still practiced but with added precautions. Hence, the extraction process is usually carried on in remote places, somewhat far away from human surroundings. Various sort of metal and non metals are extracted from the sources. For instance a mining engineer and a geologist may search for resources having deposits of ores like chalcopyrite for copper or galena for lead. Similarly, they might also search for non – metals like coal, phosphate or quartz. Various mining industries have been developed, both private and public which employs mining engineers for their study.

Bio Technology

Biotechnology is the utilization of organisms and living systems in order to produce or modify useful products for specific use. Many technological applications have been found to use the biological systems in order to bring useful and effective goods for the society. The domain of Biotechnology is broadly divided into two categories, which are bio – engineering and bio – medical engineering.  The technologies of bio engineering is used in fields of agriculture, medicines, food production, etc. over the years it has been used to process micro organisms for the production of healthy food items like bread, cheese and also to preserve various dairy products. The contribution of a bio – engineer for the society is immense, as it involves healthy and nutritional food production. Moreover, over the years the development of medicines can to a large extent be contributed to bio technology. In modern days it works to invent medicines to cure rare and deadly diseases. In today’s world there are near about 250 bio technology vaccines and products available in the market, which has proved very much useful for curing many deadly diseases. Hence, it would not be wrong to say that biotechnology helps us to gain a healthy and safer society.

Aeronautical Engineering

Aeronautical Engineering or flight technology is a branch of engineering which deals in with the design, development, construction and testing of the spacecraft and aircraft. This domain of engineering has also been known as rocket science. It can be broadly be segregated into two parts, i.e., astronautical and aeronautical engineering. The astronautics is concerned with the study of spacecrafts that are operated outside the Earth’s atmosphere and the aeronautics deals with aircrafts that are being operated within the earth’s atmosphere. This form of engineering deals with the study of science for the development of flying crafts, rockets, and space crafts. It also deals with properties like airfoils, lift, control surface and drag. More precisely we can say that the flight vehicles requires so designed so as to endure extreme temperatures and atmospheric pressures. Similarly they are the result of technologies like avionics, propulsion, aerodynamics, structural analysis and material science. Together these two technologies are termed as aerospace engineering. Due to its huge disciplines this particular field is supervised by more than one or two engineers. Hence, its demand has always been there in the market and it is one of the favorites of the students.
