It is well known to all that the last date for online registration of SSC MTS Exam 2016 is near i.e. 20th January 2017. Under such condition, interested candidates would be in a hurry to get themselves registered with the SSC. However, there are certain eligibility criteria which have to be taken into consideration by every candidate before making an application. We will discuss here about age limit, qualification and nationality to apply for SSC MTS Exam.
The official notification in this regard will issue on 24-12-2016. So, the following information on the basis of previous notification. You can check latest information on or after 24-12-2016.
Basically, the eligibility criteria are divided into three segments, namely:
- Nationality Eligibility Criteria,
- Age Eligibility Criteria, and
- Educational Qualification Eligibility Criteria.
Nationality Eligibility Criteria
This eligibility criteria take into account the nationality of a candidate. According to the official notice of the department, a candidate has to satisfy atleast one of the given conditions:
Citizen of India, or
Subject of Bhutan, or
Subject of Nepal, or
A person of Indian Origin who lived in Eastern Africa, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Burma, Bhutan, etc., and has permanently settled down in India, or
A descendant of a Tibetan refugee who had come to India before 1.1.1962 and has settled down in India since then.
If a candidate has satisfied any one of the given condition under Nationality Eligibility Criteria, then he can proceed to check the other two eligibility criteria below.
Age Eligibility Criteria
One of the most important considerations under eligibility criteria is the age eligibility criteria. As per the official notification, the age of the candidate should be in between 18 years to 25 years. However, with a view to safeguard the interest of the minorities certain age relaxations have been offered to them. The same is mentioned below:

It should be noted that for the purpose of computation of age, the date is 1.1.2016. The age of the candidate should be calculated from 1.1.2016 as specifically mentioned in the official notification.
The most important eligibility criteria to apply for SSC MTS Exam for the candidates is the educational qualification eligibility criteria. A candidate should have passed matriculation or its equivalent education from a recognized board / institute / university. The term matriculation also means Class X.
What if I have satisfied only two eligibility criteria out of three?
If a candidate has satisfied any two eligibility criteria out of the three, then the candidate cannot apply for this exam. The official notification specifically mentions that if a candidate has failed to comply with any one of the required eligibility criteria, then the candidate will not be allowed to sit for the exam.
What to do if I am qualified for SSC MTS exam?
If a candidate has met all the eligibility criteria of the SSC MTS exam, then he/ she should necessarily apply immediately for the exam.
Knowing the eligibility criteria for an exam is as important as knowing its syllabus. There is no point wasting time in preparation, if you have not eligible for the exam. Because, if you are not qualified, then you will be immediately ignored in the selection process and your efforts will go down in vain.
