The UPSC IAS Examination will consist of two successive stages (vide Appendix I Section-I)
- Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination (Objective type) for the selection of candidates for the Main Examination; and
- Civil Services (Main) Examination (Written and Interview) for the selection of candidates for the various Services and posts noted above.
The preliminary exam will be held on 18th June, 2017. The Main Examination is going to be held on 28th October, 2017.
UPSC IAS Preliminary Exam 2017
To begin with all candidates are first required to sit for Preliminary exam, which is a one day exam consisting of objective-types questions and carrying 400 marks.
There are two papers, each carrying 200 marks and candidates would be answer both the papers. The marks obtained in this exam will ascertain whether a candidate has qualified for the next round or not.
- General Ability Test – 200 Marks
- English Language & Aptitude – 200 Marks
UPSC IAS Main Exam 2017
After the preliminary exam is over and a candidate has been selected, it is time for the main exam or the written exam. The written exam consists of 7 papers and is hosted over a period of 5 days. The break-up of main examination is given below:
After clearing this level, the candidates would be required to go through one last barrier which is the Personal Interview round. This round carries 275 marks and the accumulated score of Main Examination and Personal Interview is taken together for selecting a candidate.
