Selection Procedure

- Stage I – Online Examination (100 Marks): Consists of 100 objective type questions (1 mark each). No negative marking. Questions are bilingual (English & Hindi). Candidates choose their area of specialization: Ancient / Medieval / Modern India.
- Stage II – Presentation-cum-Interview (60 Marks): Candidates shortlisted on merit from Stage I are called for a presentation (8-10 minutes, preferably on PowerPoint) based on their registered Ph.D. research topic, followed by an interview. Conducted at ICHR Headquarters, New Delhi in hybrid mode.
- Final Merit: Based on aggregate marks of Stage I (100) + Stage II (60) = 160 marks total.

- The fellowship is for a maximum period of Two years, extendable up to one more year without financial commitment under special circumstances.
- The fellowship is a whole-time engagement and cannot be combined with any other whole-time or part-time work.
- Maximum 80 fellowships will be awarded for 2025-2026 with usual reservation for SC, ST & PwD.
- Visually Impaired or orthopedically challenged candidates may use services of a scribe at their own cost during the online examination.
- SC/ST/PwD candidates called for Stage II will be reimbursed second class (sleeper) railway or bus fare by shortest route, provided the distance travelled is not less than 30 kms, on production of original tickets.
