Selection Procedure

Selection Procedure:
- Computer Based Test (CBT): Separate CBT for each Pay Level (Level-5 for Technician Grade I Signal and Level-2 for Technician Grade III). Duration: 90 minutes, 100 questions each. Negative marking @1/3rd mark per wrong answer. Normalization of marks for multiple shifts. Minimum qualifying marks: UR/EWS – 40%, OBC(NCL) – 30%, SC – 30%, ST – 25% (relaxable by 2 marks for PwBD in case of shortage).
- Document Verification (DV): Candidates shortlisted based on CBT merit at 1:1 ratio of vacancies. Original documents to be produced. In case of tie in marks, older candidate gets higher merit; if age is same, alphabetical order of given name is used.
- Medical Examination (ME): Candidates must pass the requisite medical fitness test conducted by Railway Administration as per prescribed medical standards (A3, B1, B2, C1 as applicable to the post). Candidates found medically unsuitable for opted post(s) shall not be given any alternative appointment.
- Final Allotment: Post and Railway/Unit allotted as per candidate’s options, merit, reservation, and vacancy position at the time of finalizing the panel.

How to Apply

The application procedure for is not fully online. Candidates are advised to follow the detailed instructions given below.
- Visit the official RRB website listed at Para 19.0 of the CEN.
- If you have already created an account for previous RRB CENs (2024/2025/2026), use the same login credentials. Otherwise, create a new account first.
- Authenticate your identity using DigiLocker or Aadhaar during account creation (strongly advised).
- Fill in the ONLINE application form carefully with correct information. Note: Details in ‘Create an Account’ form cannot be modified later.
- Capture a live photograph as per instructions in Para 17.4 (no pre-existing photo upload).
- Upload scanned signature in JPG/JPEG format as per specifications in Para 17.5.1.
- SC/ST candidates requesting free train travel pass must upload their SC/ST certificate in PDF format.
- Submit a separate application for each Pay Level (Level-5 and Level-2 require separate applications and separate fees).
- Choose only one RRB per Pay Level and provide order of preference for posts.
- After submission, pay the applicable examination fee online (internet banking/debit/credit card/UPI).
- Application is accepted only after confirmation of fee payment. Confirmation will be sent via email and SMS.
- If modifications are needed (except ‘Create an Account’ details and Chosen RRB), use the modification window from 01.08.2026 to 10.08.2026 by paying Rs. 250/- per modification.
- Scribe-eligible candidates must register their scribe at rrbapply.gov.in and furnish scribe details during the 5-day window after the modification window closes (11.08.2026 to 15.08.2026).

- Separate Application per Pay Level: Candidates must submit a separate application and pay separate fee for each Pay Level (Level-5 and Level-2).
- One RRB per Pay Level: Candidates can apply to only one RRB for a given Pay Level. Applying to more than one RRB for the same Pay Level will result in rejection of all applications for that Pay Level and debarment from future RRB/RRC exams.
- Age Relaxation: SC/ST – 5 years; OBC(NCL) – 3 years; PwBD (UR/EWS) – 10 years, PwBD (OBC) – 13 years, PwBD (SC/ST) – 15 years; Ex-Servicemen (UR/EWS) – 3 years after deduction of service, (OBC) – 6 years, (SC/ST) – 8 years; Serving Railway Staff (Group C/D, min 3 years) – up to 40/43/45 years; Widowed/Divorced/Judicially Separated Women – up to 35/38/40 years; Course Completed Act Apprentices – up to 3 years relaxation.
- Medical Standards: A3 (Track Machine), B1 (Signal, most Electrical/Mechanical posts), B2 (Crane Driver), C1 (Workshop posts). Candidates who have undergone LASIK surgery are not eligible for A3 posts.
- Negative Marking: 1/3rd mark deducted for each wrong answer in CBT.
- Fee Refund: Examination fee is refunded (after deducting bank charges) only to candidates who appear in CBT. Refund credited to Aadhaar-seeded bank account only.
- OBC-NCL Certificate: Must be issued on or after 01.04.2026 but not later than the closing date (29.07.2026).
- EWS Reservation: Family gross annual income below Rs. 8 lakh for financial year 2025-26. Income and Asset Certificate required from competent authority.
- Merged Post Categories (MPCs): 8 post categories at Pay Level 2 have been formed by merging multiple post designations with identical parameters. Candidates empanelled against an MPC may be assigned any post designation under that MPC.
- Training: Selected candidates for Technician posts will have to undergo training wherever prescribed; only stipend will be paid during training.
- Posting: Railway servant shall ordinarily be employed on the Railway of first appointment. No transfer request registered until at least 5-10 years of service completed.
- Malpractice: Any candidate found using unfair means will be debarred from all RRB/RRC exams for lifetime and may face legal action under The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act and Rules, 2024.
