Selection Procedure

Selection Procedure:

Computer Based Test (CBT): The CBT will be conducted for a total of 120 marks comprising two parts:
- General Aptitude (50 questions): Verbal Ability, General Knowledge, Reasoning/Logical Deduction, and Numerical Ability.
- Discipline Knowledge (70 questions): Objective-type multiple-choice questions related to the relevant discipline.
Duration: 2 hours. Negative marking: ¼ mark deducted for every incorrect answer. Minimum qualifying marks: 40% (35% for SC/ST/PwBD candidates against reserved positions). Tentatively scheduled in September/October 2026 at Chennai only.
Document Verification: Candidates shortlisted based on CBT performance (in ratio of 1:3) will be called for verification of certificates/testimonials. Eligibility criteria will be verified at this stage.
Skill, Proficiency and/or Physical Test (SPPT): Qualifying in nature. Only candidates who clear document verification and are shortlisted from CBT will be called for SPPT.
Merit List: Category-wise merit list will be drawn based on CBT marks from candidates who qualify SPPT. In case of tie, the candidate with prior date of birth (senior by age) will be preferred.
Medical Fitness: Final selection is subject to candidates being found medically fit as per CPCL’s Pre-Employment Medical Standards.

Organization: CPCL is a Navratna Public Sector Organization and a Group Company of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., with a refining capacity of 10.5 MMTPA located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
Cadre & Pay: Selected candidates will be appointed in Non-Supervisory Cadre (Grade IV) in IDA pay scale of Rs. 25,000–1,05,000/-. Additional benefits include DA, HRA/Self-Lease, PF, Gratuity, LTC/LFA, Medical Reimbursement, and Superannuation benefits.
Age Relaxation: SC/ST: 5 years; OBC: 3 years; PwBD: 10 years (GEN), 13 years (OBC), 15 years (SC) against reserved positions; Ex-Servicemen: Service period + 3 years (max 50 years). Cumulative age relaxation is not available.
Women Candidates: Women are not considered for Production (CPCL01) vacancies. Women are eligible for CPCL02 (Mechanical), CPCL03 (Electrical), and CPCL04 (Instrumentation) positions only.
PwBD Candidates: Reservations on horizontal basis only for identified posts. Minimum 40% disability required. Applicable disability categories: Hard of Hearing (HH), One Arm (OA), One Leg (OL), Dwarfism, Acid Attack Victim, Cerebral Palsy, Leprosy Cured, and Multiple Disabilities (combination of HH with Locomotor disability) for CPCL02 and CPCL03.
Higher Qualification Restriction: Candidates possessing B.E./B.Tech, MBA, CA, LLB, MCA or equivalent higher professional qualifications are NOT eligible to apply.
Experience Requirement: Minimum 3 years of relevant post-qualification work experience is mandatory for all positions (CPCL01 to CPCL04).
Apprenticeship Training under the Apprenticeship Act, 1961 shall be considered as work experience.
Large Industrial Establishment means industrial/manufacturing units with investment in plant & machinery exceeding Rs. 10 crores and which has been in operation.
Ex-Servicemen: Must be released/retired or likely to complete engagement on or before 31.12.2026. Must join CPCL on or before 31.12.2026 if selected.
SC/ST Travel Reimbursement: SC/ST candidates called for CBT/SPPT/Document Verification will be reimbursed single Second Class Railway/Bus fare (minimum distance 30 km) on production of tickets and community certificate.
