Scientific Officer, Group-B (Job Trainee)

- Qualification: 1. At least 2nd class M.Sc. in Forensic Science (with specialization/dissertation/course/project work in Chemical Sciences) OR At least 2nd class M.Sc. in Chemistry/Bio-Chemistry/Pharmacy/M.S.(Pharm.)/M.Pharm. from a recognized University. 2. Minimum 3 years post-qualification experience in Research, Training and Analytical Work. 3. Ph.D. research work counts towards the 3-year experience. Desirable: Ph.D. in one of the above subjects; Knowledge of customs, manners and dialects of Himachal Pradesh.
- Age Limit: 18 to 45 years (as on 01-01-2026). Age relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST/OBC/WFF/Persons with Disabilities of HP. Age relaxation for HP Govt. employees and Ex-Servicemen of HP as per Government instructions.

Selection Procedure

- Stage 1 – Objective Type Screening Test / Descriptive Subject Aptitude Test:
- Paper-I (Screening Test): Computer Based Test (CBT) or Offline Objective Type Test of 1 hour duration, 100 marks, with negative marking (0.25 per wrong answer). Sections: General Knowledge of HP (30 marks), National & International Affairs (30 marks), Hindi Language (20 marks), English Language (20 marks).
- Paper-II (Subject Aptitude Test – SAT): Descriptive test of 3 hours duration, 120 marks. Minimum pass marks: 45% for General category, 40% for Reserved categories.
- Based on Paper-I merit, Paper-II answer sheets are evaluated as per prescribed ratio.
- Stage 2 – Personality Test:
- Held at HPPSC office, Shimla.
- 30 marks total.
- Minimum pass marks: 40% (12 marks) for General category; 30% (9 marks) for Reserved categories.
- Normally 4 candidates per post called for Personality Test based on CBT/Offline Test merit.
- Final ranking based on SAT (120 marks) + Personality Test (30 marks) = 150 marks.
- If ratio of eligible candidates to posts is 6 or below, all candidates are directly called for Personality Test.
- Examination Station: Shimla.

- Recruitment is governed as per the scheme for engagement of Job Trainees on fixed amount vide Department of Personnel’s notification No. Per(AP)-C-B(15)-3/2024 dated 19th July, 2025.
- Candidates must be Bonafide residents of Himachal Pradesh to avail reservation benefits.
- Reserved category candidates from other states will be treated as General Category candidates.
- In-service (regular) candidates must produce NOC from their employer at the time of Personality Test.
- Examination fee of Rs. 600/- is non-refundable under any circumstances.
- E-admit cards will be available for download on the official website; no admit cards will be sent by post.
- Negative marking: 0.25 marks deducted for each wrong answer; also applicable if answer is left blank (no option selected).
- Answer key will be uploaded online; candidates can raise objections within 5 days with a fee of Rs. 100/- per objected question (non-refundable).
- Disputes subject to Court jurisdiction at Shimla.
