Gentleman Cadet - Technical Entry Scheme (TES-56) - Permanent Commission as Lieutenant
- No. of Vacancies: 90
- Qualification: 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics with minimum 60% aggregate marks from a recognized education board AND must have appeared in JEE (Mains) 2026
- Age Limit: 16½ to 19½ years as on 01 January 2027 (Born not before 01 July 2007 and not after 01 July 2010, both days inclusive)
- Pay Scale: Stipend of Rs. 56,100/- per month during training (at IMA only). After commissioning as Lieutenant: Level 10, Rs. 56,100 - 1,77,500 per month. CTC approximately Rs. 17-18 Lakh per annum. Military Service Pay (MSP): Rs. 15,500/- per month fixed (Lt to Brig rank).
Selection Procedure

Selection Procedure:
- Online Application: Candidates apply online at www.joinindianarmy.nic.in between 13 May 2026 and 12 June 2026.
- Shortlisting: Applications will be shortlisted by Integrated HQ of MoD (Army) based on JEE Mains 2026 Common Rank List (CRL) and other laid down parameters. Cut-off will be fixed without assigning any reason. Tentative publication of cut-off marks: First week of July 2026.
- SSB Interview (Service Selection Board): Shortlisted candidates will be called for SSB interview (tentatively August/September 2026) at one of the Selection Centres: Prayagraj (UP), Bhopal (MP), Bengaluru (Karnataka), or Jalandhar (Punjab). SSB is a five-day process consisting of two stages:
- Stage I: Psychological tests and screening (candidates failing Stage I are returned on the same day).
- Stage II: Group Testing Officer tests and Interview by Interviewing Officer.
- Medical Examination: Candidates recommended by SSB undergo medical examination at the nearest Military Hospital.
- Merit List: Merit list is prepared based only on marks obtained in SSB interview. Higher educational qualifications, previous performance, NCC background etc. have no role in finalizing the merit list.
- Joining Letter: Candidates recommended by SSB and declared medically fit will be issued Joining Letter for training in order of merit, subject to availability of vacancies and meeting all eligibility criteria.
- Choice of Cadet Training Wing (CTW): Recommended candidates fill three choices of CTW (CME Pune, MCTE Mhow, MCEME Secunderabad). Final allocation is decided by Indian Army.

- Type of Commission: Permanent Commission in the rank of Lieutenant after successful completion of 4-year course.
- Eligibility: Unmarried male candidates only. Candidates must undertake not to marry until completion of full training.
- Nationality: Indian citizens, subjects of Nepal, or persons of Indian origin from specified countries with intention to permanently settle in India (with eligibility certificate from Government of India where applicable).
- Training Duration: 4 years (3 years at Cadets Training Wing + 1 year at IMA, Dehradun).
- Engineering Degree: Candidates are awarded an Engineering Degree after successful completion of 4 years training. Streams offered: Civil & Mechanical Engineering (CME Pune), Telecom & IT Engineering – Dual Degree (MCTE Mhow), Electronics & Mechanical Engineering (MCEME Secunderabad).
- Cost of Training: Rs. 13,940/- per week (as on 2021) borne by the Government; recoverable from candidates who withdraw voluntarily.
- Army Group Insurance: Insurance cover of Rs. 30 lakh on payment of one-time non-refundable premium of Rs. 14,000/- for first 3 years. Rs. 1.25 Crore insurance when in receipt of stipend (subscription Rs. 12,500/- per month).
- Physical Standards on Arrival for Training: 2.4 km run in 10 min 30 sec, Push Up: 40, Pull Up: 06, Sit Up: 30, Squats: Two sets of 30 repetitions, Lunges: Two sets of 10 repetitions, Swimming: Should know fundamentals.
- Promotion Criteria: Lieutenant (on commission) → Captain (2 years) → Major (6 years) → Lt Colonel (13 years) → Colonel TS (26 years) → Colonel/Brigadier/Major General/Lt General/General (on selection basis).
- Allowances: Dearness Allowance, Kit Maintenance/Dress Allowance (Rs. 20,000/- per year), Military Service Pay (Rs. 15,500/- per month), Transport Allowance, Children Education Allowance (Rs. 2,250/- per month per child for first two children), Hostel Subsidy (Rs. 6,750/- per month per child for two eldest children), Risk and Hardship Allowances as applicable.
- Travelling Allowance: AC III Tier railway fare or bus fare (including reservation charges) for first-time SSB appearance for a particular type of commission.
- Debarred Candidates: Candidates debarred by UPSC, arrested/convicted by criminal court, or withdrawn from NDA/OTA/IMA/Naval Academy/Air Force Academy on disciplinary grounds are NOT eligible.
- Common Candidates (TES & NDA): Special medical examination procedure applies for candidates applying for both TES and NDA entries simultaneously.
- DIGILOCKER Certificates: Not accepted in lieu of original certificates. If school/college does not issue hard copy, a colour printout of e-certificate duly authenticated by the institution must be produced.
