Selection Procedure

Selection Procedure:
- Computer Based Test (CBT) – 75 Marks: CBT will be held on 22.05.2026 (Saturday). Duration: 50 minutes. It consists of 50 objective-type questions of 1.5 marks each (total 75 marks). Negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer applies.
- Shortlisting: Based on CBT results, candidates will be shortlisted department-wise and category-wise in the ratio of 1:3 (3 candidates per advertised post) for further recruitment process.
- Eligibility Notice: An Eligibility Notice will be published on the Institute’s website on 16.06.2026 for candidates eligible for document verification and departmental interview & assessment.
- Document Verification: Scheduled on 23.06.2026. Candidates must produce original documents and self-attested photocopies.
- Departmental Interview & Assessment – 25 Marks: To be held on 23.06.2026. Based on clinical evaluation/laboratory testing/detailed structured viva/personal interview as applicable.
- Minimum Qualifying Marks: 40% for General/EWS category and 35% for SC/ST/OBC categories, separately in both CBT and Departmental Interview & Assessment.
- Final Selection: Based on aggregate merit of CBT (75 marks) + Departmental Interview & Assessment (25 marks) = 100 marks total.
- Tie-Breaking: (i) Fewer wrong answers/negative marks; (ii) Earlier date of birth; (iii) Higher aggregate % in 10+2; (iv) Higher aggregate % in Matric/10th standard.

- Tenure: All posts are tenure posts for a maximum period of 03 years.
- Nationality: Only Indian Nationals are eligible to apply. Foreign nationals are not eligible.

- Candidates Not Eligible: Candidates who have completed three years tenure of Senior Residency in a particular discipline or have done DM/M.Ch. are not eligible for the post of Senior Resident.
- Qualification Validity: Candidates must have a valid pass certificate as on 30.06.2026. Candidates appearing for final exams in June 2026 are eligible subject to obtaining the degree before 30.06.2026.
- PGI Satellite Centre, Sangrur: Candidates selected for Sangrur posts will be posted there and will have no claim/right for posts at PGIMER, Chandigarh.
- PwBD Reservation: 14 posts are reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) (non-surgical jobs) from Senior Resident posts. Minimum 40% disability required for fee concession and age relaxation. Maximum age for PwBD shall not exceed 56 years.
- Age Relaxation: SC/ST: 5 years; OBC: 3 years; PwBD: 10 years; PwBD+SC/ST: 15 years; PwBD+OBC: 13 years; Central Govt. Civilian Employees (General): 5 years; Central Govt. Civilian Employees (OBC): 8 years; Central Govt. Civilian Employees (SC/ST): 10 years; Ex-Servicemen: 5 years.
- OBC Certificate: Must be issued between 01.04.2026 and 11.05.2026 (financial year 2026-27) and must be in DoPT format. Must clearly state candidate does not belong to Creamy Layer.
- EWS Certificate: Family gross annual income must be below Rs. 8 lakh. Certificate must be issued between 01.04.2026 and 11.05.2026.
