Selection Procedure

- Preliminary Examination (Part-1): Objective type (MCQ) General Studies paper. Duration: 2 hours. Total Marks: 150. Negative marking: 1/3 mark for wrong answers. Candidates not selecting any option (E) will also face 1/3 negative marking. Minimum qualifying marks: General-40%, BC-36.5%, EBC-34%, SC/ST/Women/PwD-32%. Candidates equal to 10 times the total vacancies (category-wise) will be selected for Mains.
- Main (Written) Examination (Part-2):
For 72nd CCE: (i) General Hindi – 100 marks (qualifying, 30% required, not counted for merit); (ii) General Studies Paper-I – 300 marks; (iii) General Studies Paper-II – 300 marks; (iv) Essay – 300 marks; (v) One Optional Subject – 100 marks (MCQ, 2 hours, qualifying only).
For CDPO/FAO/Sub-Divisional Protection Officer: General Hindi (qualifying) + GS Paper-I + GS Paper-II + One Optional Subject (300 marks, subjective, counted for merit).
Minimum qualifying marks same as Prelims. Candidates equal to 2.5 times vacancies called for Personality Test. - Personality Test / Interview (Part-3): 120 marks. Mandatory for all qualified candidates.
- Medical Examination: After Personality Test. Fee: Rs. 16/-.
- Merit List: Based on total 1020 marks (Main Written 900 + Interview 120). In case of tie, higher marks in written exam, then optional subject, then age (older preferred), then name in Devanagari alphabetical order.

- Reservation: Horizontal reservation: 4% for PwBD (benchmark disability 40%+, Bihar domicile only), 35% for women (all categories, Bihar domicile), 2% for grandchildren of freedom fighters (central pension holders).
- Age Relaxation: UR Male max 37 years; UR Female/BC/EBC max 40 years; SC/ST max 42 years (as on 01.08.2026). Additional 10 years for PwBD. Ex-servicemen: 3 years + service period (actual age not exceeding 57 years). Bihar Govt. employees: max 5 attempts after service entry, 5 years age relaxation.
- Exam Pattern: Preliminary exam is qualifying only. Main exam marks (900) + Interview (120) = 1020 marks for final merit.
- No limit on attempts for general candidates (as per resolution dated 10.09.2003). Bihar Govt. employees limited to 5 attempts post-service.
