Selection Procedure

Selection Procedure:

Screening Test: Tentatively scheduled on 02/08/2026 at Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, and Hyderabad. Candidates must opt for one centre while applying online. IGCAR reserves the right to allot candidates to any centre or not hold the test at a particular centre.
Direct Interview (Exemption from Screening Test):
- Category A: Candidates with valid UGC-CSIR-NET Fellowship, valid JEST score, or valid GATE score after Master’s degree (above IGCAR cut-off) are exempted from Screening Test.
- Category C: Candidates with valid GATE score above IGCAR cut-off or valid JEST score with eligible engineering disciplines are exempted from Screening Test.
- Category D: Candidates who joined M.E./M.Tech. via valid GATE (eligible discipline) are exempted from Screening Test.
Category B: All candidates must appear for the Screening Test; shortlisted candidates will be called for Interview.
Personal Interview: To be held at Kalpakkam tentatively from the third week of August 2026 for all shortlisted candidates (both Screening Test qualifiers and Direct Interview eligible candidates).
Document Verification: Original certificates and self-attested photocopies to be verified at the final stage of selection.
Medical Fitness: Final induction subject to being found medically fit by the Medical Superintendent, DAE Hospital, Kalpakkam.
The recommendation/decision of the Selection Committee will be final and binding.

IGCAR is a premier R&D centre under the Department of Atomic Energy, dedicated to fast reactor technology and associated fuel cycle facilities.
Selected candidates shall register for Ph.D. under Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), a deemed University of DAE (ranked 7th in Research Institutions category, NIRF 2025).
Only Indian Nationals are eligible to apply.
Minimum 55% aggregate at graduation and post-graduation levels required (50% for SC/ST/OBC non-creamy layer/PwBD).
Only SSC/Matriculation/HSC Certificate or Birth Certificate will be accepted as proof of date of birth.
Candidates graduating in 2025-2026 and awaiting results may apply but must submit final marksheet by 31-12-2026; stipend will be paid only after submission of final qualifying degree certificates.
UGC/AICTE approved degrees from recognized universities only will be accepted.
Certain qualifications are NOT eligible (e.g., Aerospace, Automobile, Bio-Medical Engineering, MCA, M.Sc. Computer Science, Particle Physics, Astrophysics, Geophysics, Biophysics, Medical Physics, Polymer/Medicinal/Pharmaceutical/Biochemistry/Environmental/Industrial Chemistry, etc.).
Accommodation will be provided on nominal charges for 48 hours for candidates shortlisted for Personal Interview.
Selected candidates will be provided subsidized bachelor Hostel Accommodation during the tenure.
Selected candidates are eligible to join the Contributory Health Service Scheme (CHSS).
The fellowship does not confer any right for regular employment at IGCAR or any DAE unit.
The period of service as research fellow will not be counted in any post of DAE/Other Government Department.
