- Applicants will be shortlisted on the basis of a system-generated merit list.
- Merit list will be prepared based on marks obtained in the Secondary School Examination (10th Standard) of recognized Boards, aggregated to percentage up to 4 decimal places.
- For applicants with marks: actual marks obtained will be used. For applicants with only grades: subject-wise marks will be calculated using a multiplication factor of 9.5 against grade points.
- Where CGPA is provided, marks = CGPA × 9.5. If both individual grades and CGPA are given, the higher value will be taken.
- For DBSE candidates: percentage given in the marksheet will be used directly.
- For Tamil Nadu SBSE candidates (2020-21, COVID year): a uniform 66.67% will be awarded by the system.

Other Important Information
- GDS are not regular Central Government employees; their emoluments and service conditions are governed by GDS (Conduct and Engagement) Rules, 2020.
- GDS are required to work a minimum of 4 hours and maximum of 5 hours per day and cannot be retained beyond 65 years of age.
- GDS must have another source of income besides the allowances paid by the Government.
- BPM candidates must arrange accommodation for the Branch Post Office at their own cost and must reside in the post village.
- ABPM and Dak Sevaks must reside within the delivery jurisdiction of the concerned Post Office.
- Emoluments are paid as Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) with an annual increase of 3%, subject to conditions. Dearness Allowance on TRCA is also payable.
- GDS are also entitled to GDS Gratuity and Service Discharge Benefit Scheme (akin to NPS).
