Selection Procedure

Selection Procedure:
- Online Application: Candidates apply online at www.joinindianarmy.nic.in within the application window (13 May 2026 to 11 Jun 2026).
- Shortlisting of Applications: Applications are shortlisted based on cumulative percentage of marks obtained up to the final semester/year in each Engineering stream. The cut-off percentage is applied stream-wise. Shortlisting is done based on vacancy to call-up ratio decided by Recruiting Directorate.
- SSB Centre & Date Selection: Shortlisted candidates log in to the website and select their SSB Centre and date on a first-come-first-serve basis (selection window opens in June 2026 for two weeks). Once selected, SSB Centre and Date cannot be changed.
- SSB Interview (Five Days): Shortlisted candidates appear for a five-day SSB interview at one of the Selection Centres: Prayagraj (UP), Bhopal (MP), Bengaluru (Karnataka), or Jalandhar (Punjab). The SSB involves two stages:
- Stage 1: Screening test; candidates who fail are returned on the same day.
- Stage 2: Assessment by Psychologist, Group Testing Officer, and Interviewing Officer; candidates who clear Stage 1 proceed to Stage 2.
- Medical Examination: Candidates recommended after Stage 2 of SSB undergo a medical examination. Validity of SSB medical examination is 270 days (SMB to PCTA joining date).
- Merit List: A merit list is prepared engineering stream/subject-wise based on SSB marks. In case of equal SSB marks, the older candidate ranks higher. If both SSB marks and age are equal, the candidate with higher percentage of marks in degree ranks higher.
- Joining Letter: Candidates in the merit list within stipulated stream-wise vacancies who are medically fit are issued Joining Letters for pre-commissioning training at IMA Dehradun, subject to meeting all eligibility criteria.

- Type of Commission: Permanent Commission in the Indian Army in the rank of Lieutenant.
- Eligibility: Unmarried Male Engineering Graduates only. Candidates must be citizens of India or eligible subjects/persons as per nationality criteria.
- Training: Approximately 12 months at Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun (Jan 2027 to Dec 2027). Training cost is borne by the Government.
- Stipend During Training: ₹56,100/- per month (Starting Pay in Level 10 of Pay Matrix).
- Rank After Training: Lieutenant. One year ante-date seniority from the date of commission is granted for TGC entry Engineering Graduates.
- Primary Arms/Services: Corps of Engineers, Corps of Signals, and Electronics & Mechanical Engineers. Candidates may also be commissioned in other Arms/Services.
- Pay Scale (Post-Commission):

- Any mismatch in Engineering stream nomenclature between degree/marksheet and online application will result in cancellation of candidature.

- Original Degree/Provisional Degree and all semester marksheets must be carried to SSB.
- DIGILOCKER certificates will NOT be accepted in lieu of original certificates.
