Selection Procedure
The detailed selection procedure has been mentioned in the official notification of SSC JHT Notification 2026. But we are giving you here the short summary of the selection procedure. The candidates are advised to refer to official notification for selection procedure.
Selection Procedure:
- Paper-I (Computer Based Examination – Objective Type): Consists of two parts: Part-I: General Hindi (100 questions/100 marks) and Part-II: General English (100 questions/100 marks). Duration: 2 hours with sectional timer of 1 hour for each part (2 hours 40 minutes for eligible scribe candidates). Negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer applies.
- Minimum Qualifying Marks in Paper-I: UR: 30%, OBC/EWS: 25%, All Other Categories: 20%.
- Paper-II (Descriptive – Translation & Essay): 200 marks. Duration: 2 hours (2 hours 40 minutes for eligible scribe candidates). Contains passages for translation (Hindi to English and English to Hindi) and essays in both languages.
- Final Merit: Weightage of 50% of scores in Paper-I and 100% of marks in Paper-II. There may be separate category-wise cut-offs in Paper-I and Paper-II.
- Post Preference: Candidates must submit post preferences online before declaration of First Round of Tentative Allocation (FRTA). Allocation is based on merit-cum-preference.
- Document Verification (DV): Conducted by User Departments/Organizations after declaration of final result.
- Tie Resolution: (i) Total marks in Paper-II; (ii) Date of birth (older candidate ranked higher); (iii) Alphabetical order of names.

The application procedure for is not fully online. Candidates are advised to follow the detailed instructions given below.
- Visit the official SSC website: https://ssc.gov.in
- Complete One-Time Registration (OTR) on the new website if not already done. Note: OTR from old website (https://ssc.nic.in) will not be functional.
- Candidates may opt for Aadhaar Based Authentication during OTR for easier processing.
- Login using Registration Number and Password.
- Click ‘Apply’ link under ‘Combined Hindi Translators Examination, 2026’ in the ‘Live Exam’ tab.
- Fill in all required details including educational qualifications, category, age relaxation, and examination centre preferences (up to 3 centres in order of priority).
- Capture live photograph using webcam/mobile device as per instructions (no cap, mask, or spectacles; plain background; full frontal view).
- Upload scanned signature in JPEG/JPG format (10–20 KB), dimensions approximately 6.0 cm (width) x 2.0 cm (height).
- PwBD/PwD candidates willing to avail reservation or scribe must upload Certificate of Disability as applicable.
- Review all details in Preview before final submission.
- Pay application fee of Rs. 100/- online (if not exempted) via BHIM UPI, Net Banking, Visa, MasterCard, Maestro, or RuPay Debit card by 15.05.2026 (23:00 hours).
- Take a printout of the submitted application form for future reference.
- If corrections are needed, use the ‘Window for Application Form Correction’ from 19.05.2026 to 20.05.2026 (23:00 hours) by paying correction charges (Rs. 200/- for 1st correction, Rs. 500/- for 2nd correction).

Other Important Information:
- Nationality: Candidates must be Indian citizens or subjects of Nepal/Bhutan or persons of Indian origin who have migrated from specified countries with intention to permanently settle in India.
- Age Limit: 18 to 30 years as on 01-08-2026 (born not before 02-08-1996 and not later than 01-08-2008). Age relaxation: SC/ST – 5 years; OBC – 3 years; PwBD – 10 years; PwBD (OBC) – 13 years; PwBD (SC/ST) – 15 years; ESM – 3 years after deduction of military service.
- Reservation: Available for SC, ST, OBC, EWS, and PwBD candidates. No ESM reservation for Group ‘B’ posts unless otherwise stated.
- Scribe/Assistive Technology: Available for eligible PwBD/PwD candidates. Compensatory time of 20 minutes per hour of examination provided to eligible candidates using scribe.
- Examination Centres: Candidates may choose up to 3 centres in order of preference from across India. No change of centre will be allowed after submission.
- All India Service Liability (AISL): Selected candidates may be posted anywhere in India.
- Probation: Candidates appointed will be on probation for 2 years.
- Answer Key Challenge: Tentative answer keys will be published online. Candidates may challenge at Rs. 50/- per question (non-refundable) within the stipulated time.
- Application Form Correction: Correction window available from 19.05.2026 to 20.05.2026 (23:00 hours). Correction charges: Rs. 200/- for 1st correction, Rs. 500/- for 2nd correction.
- Marks Normalization: If Paper-I is conducted in multiple shifts, marks will be normalized as per the Commission’s published procedure.
- BRO Posts: Only male candidates are eligible for vacancies in Border Roads Organization (BRO). Physical Efficiency Test, Physical Standards, and Medical Standards apply for BRO posts.
