Selection Procedure
The detailed selection procedure has been mentioned in the official notification of UPSSSC Lower PCS Recruitment 2026. But we are giving you here the short summary of the selection procedure. The candidates are advised to refer to official notification for selection procedure.
Selection Procedure:
- Two-Tier Examination System: Only candidates who appeared in the Preliminary Eligibility Test (PET-2025) and have been issued a score card by the Commission are eligible to apply for the Main Examination.
- Shortlisting for Main Exam: Candidates will be shortlisted for the Main (Written) Examination based on their normalized scores in PET-2025 (merit-wise). Up to 15 times the number of advertised vacancies (category-wise) will be shortlisted, including all candidates up to the final cut-off normalized score (up to 2 decimal places). Candidates with zero or negative scores in PET-2025 will not be shortlisted.
- Main Written Examination: One question paper consisting of 100 objective/multiple-choice questions; duration: 2 hours (120 minutes); each question carries 1 mark; negative marking of 25% (0.25 marks) for each wrong answer.
- Exam Pattern: Part-1: General Studies (History, Polity, Geography, Economy, Science, Environment, Current Affairs, General Intelligence, Elementary Maths, General Hindi) – 65 questions; Part-2: Computer & IT Knowledge – 15 questions; Part-3: General Knowledge of Uttar Pradesh – 20 questions.
- Normalization: If the exam is held in multiple shifts/days, scores will be normalized as per the procedure published on 22 May 2019 (Notice No. 42/05/Vigya. Anu.(11)/2019).
- Final Selection: Based on merit in the Main Written Examination. No interview. Selection is governed by UP Group ‘C’ Direct Recruitment Rules 2015 and UP Lower Level Posts Direct Recruitment (Interview Abolition) Rules 2017.

- Candidates must visit the official website upsssc.gov.in and click on the relevant advertisement under the Live Advertisement Segment on the Homepage.
- Login using the PET-2025 Registration Number via OTP sent to the registered mobile number/email.
- Personal details registered in PET-2025 will be auto-populated. Select the desired post(s) and fill in educational qualification details.
- Enter the verification code and click the ‘Submit’ button to generate the application form with an 11-digit registration number.
- Upload/verify photo and signature (auto-populated from PET-2025 records; no changes allowed).
- Fill in preference of posts and other details, then complete the Declaration section.
- Pay the application fee via Credit Card/Debit Card/Internet Banking/UPI or SBI e-Challan as per the instructions on the website.
- After successful fee payment/adjustment, the application will be auto-submitted. Download and print the application form.
- Modifications to the application (permitted fields only) can be made till 25-06-2026 via the Applicant’s Dashboard using PET-2025 registration number.

Other Important Information
- Total Vacancies: 2285 posts across various departments under the Government of Uttar Pradesh.
- Eligibility: Only candidates who appeared in PET-2025 and have a valid PET-2025 score card are eligible to apply. Candidates with zero or negative normalized/absolute scores in PET-2025 are not eligible.
- Reservation: Vertical and horizontal reservations as per UP Government rules for SC, ST, OBC, EWS (10%), Women, Ex-Servicemen, Dependants of Freedom Fighters, Divyang (4% horizontal), and Outstanding Sportspersons.
- EWS Certificate: Must be issued between 01-04-2026 and 18-06-2026, based on income of FY 2025-26, and valid for FY 2026-27.
- Age Relaxation: As per UP Government rules for SC/ST/OBC/EWS/Women/Ex-Servicemen/Divyang/State Government employees (5 years)/Chief Minister Fellowship researchers etc.
- Date of Birth Proof: Only the date of birth as mentioned in the High School (Class 10) or equivalent certificate will be accepted.
- Application Modification: Permitted fields (correspondence address, EWS/horizontal reservation category, marital status, qualification details, Divyang category) can be modified till 25-06-2026 only.
- Exam Fee for Main Exam: Exam fee for the Main Examination will be paid separately only by shortlisted candidates, before downloading the Main Exam admit card.
- Candidates in Government Service: Must obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer before participating in the selection process.
- UP Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act 2024 (dated 06 August 2024) will be applicable to this examination.
- Preference of Posts: Candidates must indicate their preference of departments/posts at the time of application. The Commission will try to allot posts based on preference, availability, merit, and eligibility, but the Commission’s decision will be final.
- Only one application per candidate is allowed; if multiple applications are submitted, only the last submitted application will be accepted.
