- Qualification: Post Graduate degree from a recognized University in Physical Sciences [Physics/Applied Physics/Atmospheric Sciences/Meteorology/Oceanography/Climate Science/Geophysics with Meteorology/Environmental Sciences/Electronics or related] / Chemical Sciences [Chemistry/Physical Chemistry/Inorganic Chemistry/Organic Chemistry or related] / Mathematical Sciences [Mathematics/Applied Mathematics/Statistics or related] OR M.Tech. in Atmospheric/Oceanic Sciences or related subjects OR Master's degree from any branch of Engineering; AND qualified in CSIR-UGC NET/UGC NET/ICAR NET (Lectureship/Assistant Professorship)/GATE/JEST; AND minimum 55% aggregate marks for General and OBC (50% for SC, ST and PwBD); AND studied Physics AND Mathematics at bachelor's degree level.

Selection Procedure

Selection Procedure:
- Screening: A duly constituted Screening Committee shall screen the applications received based on the given eligibility criteria and may introduce additional criteria as deemed necessary for short-listing candidates.
- Written Test (if required): In the event of a large number of applications, IITM may conduct a written test to shortlist candidates for interview. Marks obtained in the written test will NOT be considered for final selection.

- Only Indian Nationals are eligible to apply.
- The positions are purely temporary and only for specific duration of 04 years. The candidate needs to register for Ph.D. within the first two years, or as per the guidelines of CSIR/UGC.
- Candidates who have qualified CSIR-UGC NET/UGC NET/ICAR NET/GATE/JEST and appeared/to appear for final year of M.Sc./M.S./M.Tech./M.E. can also apply; appointment shall be subject to having passed the examination.
- Candidates with valid CSIR/UGC/DST-INSPIRE fellowship are also encouraged to apply and must specify their fellowship preference in the online application form.
- Candidates with valid DST-INSPIRE fellowship but not qualified in any national level examination will have to avail the DST-INSPIRE fellowship only.
- PwBD candidates eligible: Deaf and hard of hearing; Locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy.
- Selected Research Fellows are required to register for Ph.D. in recognized Universities and take up relevant research topics benefitting the individual and IITM.
- Candidates appointed shall not have any claim or right for regular appointment against any posts in IITM.
