Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) 2026

- Qualification: Matriculation/SSLC plus ITI (NCVT/SCVT) in relevant trades OR Matriculation/SSLC plus Course Completed Act Apprenticeship in relevant trades OR Matriculation/SSLC plus 3-year Diploma in Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics/Automobile Engineering (Degree also acceptable in lieu of Diploma)
- Age Limit: 18 to 30 years (as on 01-07-2026); Age relaxation applicable for SC/ST (5 years), OBC-NCL (3 years), Ex-Servicemen, Railway Staff, and other categories as per rules
- Pay Scale: Level-2 (7th CPC), Initial Pay Rs. 19,900/-
Selection Procedure

Selection Procedure:
- First Stage CBT (CBT-1): Screening exam of 75 questions in 60 minutes (Mathematics, Mental Ability, General Science). Negative marking @1/3rd per wrong answer. Minimum pass: UR/EWS-40%, OBC(NCL)-30%, SC-30%, ST-25%. Marks of CBT-1 not counted in final panel; used only for shortlisting for CBT-2 (15 times vacancies per RRB).
- Second Stage CBT (CBT-2): Total 175 questions in 2 hours 30 minutes. Part-A (100 questions, 90 min): Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, Basic Science & Engineering – minimum pass UR/EWS-40%, OBC(NCL)-30%, SC-30%, ST-25%. Part-B (75 questions, 60 min): Trade-specific qualifying test – minimum 35% for all categories. Only Part-A marks used for shortlisting; Part-B is qualifying only. Negative marking @1/3rd per wrong answer in Part-A.
- Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT): Candidates equal to 8 times ALP vacancies shortlisted from CBT-2 Part-A merit. Mandatory to clear each test battery separately. Minimum T-score of 42 in each battery. Conducted in English and Hindi only. No negative marking. Self Screening Medical Declaration Report (Annexure VIIIA & VIIIB) must be submitted on CBAT day.
- Document Verification (DV): Merit list prepared RRB-wise based on combined score of Part-A of CBT-2 (50% weightage) and CBAT scores (50% weightage). Candidates equal to number of vacancies shortlisted for DV and Medical Examination.
- Medical Examination (ME): Candidates must pass Railway Medical Fitness Test as per prescribed standards (Medical Standard A-1 for ALP).

- Medical Standard: A-1 (Physically fit in all respects). Distant Vision: 6/6, 6/6 without glasses; Near Vision: Sn 0.6, 0.6 without glasses. Must pass Colour Vision, Binocular Vision, Field of Vision, Night Vision, Mesopic Vision tests. Candidates who have undergone LASIK or any other corrective eye surgery are NOT eligible.
- Negative Marking: 1/3rd mark deducted for each wrong answer in CBT-1 and CBT-2. No negative marking in CBAT.
- Normalization: Marks will be normalized for CBTs held in multiple shifts.
- One Application Only: Candidates can apply to only ONE RRB. Multiple applications will lead to rejection and debarment from future RRB/RRC exams.
- Not Suitable for PwBD: The post of ALP is not suitable for Persons with Benchmark Disability.
