Selection Procedure

Selection Procedure:
- Online Written Examination (Objective Type): The exam consists of 100 questions for 100 marks with a total duration of 90 minutes. Sections include: General/Financial Awareness (25 Qs, 25 Marks), General English (25 Qs, 25 Marks), Quantitative and Reasoning Aptitude (25 Qs, 25 Marks), Computer or Subject Knowledge (25 Qs, 25 Marks). Candidates must score a minimum aggregate percentage as decided by the Bank (5% relaxation for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD). No minimum qualifying marks for individual subjects. In case of tie, the candidate senior by age will be ranked higher.
- Test of Local Language: Candidates applying for a particular state must be proficient (reading, writing, speaking, understanding) in the local language of that state. This test is conducted after qualifying the online written examination, during document verification. Candidates with 10th/12th mark sheet evidencing study of the specified local language are exempted.
- Document Verification / Personal Interaction: Shortlisted candidates will be called for document verification and personal interaction at centres across India as decided by the Bank.
- Medical Examination: Final selection is subject to the candidate being declared medically fit by a qualified medical practitioner engaged by the Bank.

IOB Apprentice 2026 Vacancy Detail
Other Important Information:
- Apprenticeship Duration: One year contract period under the Apprentices Act, 1961.
- Nature of Engagement: Apprentices will NOT be treated as employees of Indian Overseas Bank and will not be entitled to employee benefits.
- Training Hours: Daily training hours will be the same as applicable to Clerical staff of the Bank/Branch.
- Leave: Apprentices are entitled to 1 day casual leave per month (12 days per year). Maximum 4 days at a time. No other type of leave is applicable. Absence beyond entitled leave will be treated as Leave Without Pay.
- No Employment Guarantee: The Bank has no obligation to offer regular employment to apprentices during or after completion of the apprenticeship period.
- Ineligibility Conditions: Candidates who have previously undergone apprenticeship with IOB or any other organization, or who have training/job experience of one year or more after completing graduation, are NOT eligible.
- No Ex-Servicemen Reservation: No ex-servicemen/disabled ex-servicemen shall be engaged as apprentice and there is no reservation for them.
- Apprenticeship Certificate: At the end of training, apprentices will undergo a final assessment test and an Apprenticeship Certificate will be issued based on marks obtained.
- Reservation Details: Total 750 vacancies – SC: 176, ST: 63, OBC: 247, EWS: 32, General: 232. PwBD (horizontal reservation): HI: 19, OC: 16, VI: 17, ID: 16.
- Stipend (NATS candidates): Metro: Rs.9,350/- per month (after Govt. subsidy deduction); Urban: Rs.8,350/-; Semi-Urban/Rural: Rs.7,850/-. Government share of Rs.6,150/- credited directly via DBT.
- Jurisdiction: Any dispute arising out of this advertisement shall be subject to the sole jurisdiction of courts situated at Chennai.
- OBC Certificate Validity: OBC Non-Creamy Layer certificate must be issued on or after 01.04.2026.
- EWS Income Limit: Family gross annual income below Rs.8.00 lakh per annum. Certain property/land holdings will disqualify EWS status.
