Selection Procedure

Selection Procedure:
- Candidates fulfilling the criteria with respect to educational qualification, marks, and age are eligible for engagement as Apprentices on the basis of a merit list based on marks scored in the specified educational qualification.
- Selection is subject to being found “Medically Fit” by IREL (India) Limited’s Medical Officer.
- In case of a tie, higher marks in the specified educational qualification will be considered. If still tied, seniority in date of birth will be taken.
- Priority for Selection:
- A. Candidates belonging to Land Affected Category (with documentary proof) regardless of marks obtained.
- B. Preferential Priority within category: (i) Wards of IREL employees regardless of marks; (ii) Wards of deceased IREL employees while on service; (iii) Permanent residents of Chinnavilai, Periavilai, Puthoor and Kottilpadu villages preferred over other villages within 10 km radius.
- C. Permanent residents of Midalam, Keezhmidalam and Kurumpanai villages preferred over other candidates from Kanyakumari District.
- D. Candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu State.
- E. Others.
- Shortlisted candidates shall undergo Medical Examination and must be declared “Medically Fit” by the company’s authorized Medical Officer before engagement.
- Physical verification of original documents shall be done prior to joining on a specific date.
- IREL (India) Limited being a highly protected area, Apprentices will be allowed entry only after submission of Police Verification Certificate duly issued by concerned Police authorities.

- Candidates with qualifications acquired through Distance Learning Mode, Part Time Mode, or Correspondence Mode shall not be considered.
- Candidates who have already undergone or are currently undergoing Apprenticeship training under the Apprentices Act, 1961 in any Govt./Public Sector/Private Industrial organization are NOT eligible.
- Candidates should not apply for more than one trade at a time.
- Candidates having higher/professional qualifications such as ME/M.Tech, MCA, MBA, CA/ICWA, Ph.D, L.L.B need not apply.
- Reservation for SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PWD will be applicable as per the prescribed percentage applicable to the State of Tamil Nadu.
- IREL (India) Limited shall have no obligation to offer regular employment to Apprentices during and/or after the completion of the apprenticeship period.
- After successful completion of Apprenticeship period, candidates shall be relieved from the respective work area.
- The selected candidates shall execute a Contract with the respective authority as per the Apprentices Act.
- Any corrigendum/addendum or updates shall be made available on the official website www.irel.co.in only.
- The candidature of the applicant would be provisional and subject to subsequent verification of certificates.
- Suppression of information regarding possession or pursuing higher qualification shall render a candidate ineligible at any stage of selection and liable for termination.
- Service terms and conditions of the apprentices shall be governed by The Apprentices Act, 1961 and Apprenticeship Rules 1992 as amended from time to time.
- Duration of training: 1 year for most trades; 2 years for Carpenter and Plumber/Fitter trades.
