Selection Procedure

- Written Examination (UPSC): Objective type papers conducted by UPSC on 13th September 2026.
- Paper I: Mathematics (Code 01) – 300 Marks – 2½ Hours
- Paper II: General Ability Test (Code 02) – 600 Marks – 2½ Hours (Part A: English 200 marks; Part B: General Knowledge 400 marks)
- Total Written: 900 Marks
- Negative marking: 1/3 of marks deducted for each wrong answer.
- Services Selection Board (SSB) Test/Interview: 900 Marks
- Stage I: Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) Tests and Picture Perception & Description Test (PP&DT). Only those clearing Stage I proceed to Stage II.
- Stage II (4 days): Interview, Group Testing Officer (GTO) Tasks, Psychology Tests, and Conference. Assessed by Interviewing Officer (IO), GTO, and Psychologist.
- Computerised Pilot Selection System (CPSS)/Pilot Aptitude Battery Test (PABT): Mandatory for Air Force Flying Branch candidates who qualify SSB and express willingness. CPSS is conducted only once in a lifetime.
- Medical Examination: Conducted by a Board of Service Medical Officers for SSB-recommended candidates. Only medically fit candidates are admitted.
- Final Merit List: Combined merit list based on Written Examination + SSB Test marks. Final allocation to Army/Navy/Air Force/Naval Academy based on vacancies, medical fitness, and candidate preference order. Separate merit lists prepared for Male and Female candidates.

- Examination Centres: 86 centres across India. Allotment on first-apply-first-allot basis (except Chennai, Dispur, Kolkata, Nagpur which have no ceiling). Candidates are advised to apply early.
- Nationality: Candidate must be a citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal, or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from specified countries with intention to permanently settle in India.
- Marital Status: Only unmarried male/female candidates are eligible. Candidates must undertake not to marry until completion of full training.
- Physical Standards: Candidates must be physically fit as per guidelines in Appendix-III. Permanent body tattoos permitted only on inner face of forearm (inside elbow to wrist) and reverse/dorsal side of palm/hand.
- Mobile Phones Banned: Use of mobile phones (even in switched-off mode), pagers, smart watches, Bluetooth devices, or any electronic equipment is strictly prohibited at the examination venue.
- Entry Closure: Entry to examination venue closes 30 minutes before commencement. Face authentication is mandatory at the venue.
- e-Admit Card: Issued on the last working day of the preceding week of the examination date. Available for download on https://upsconline.nic.in. No admit card sent by post or email.

- Training: 3 years at NDA (Army/Navy/Air Force); 4 years at Indian Naval Academy for Naval Academy (10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme). Degrees awarded by Jawaharlal Nehru University.
- Army Group Insurance: Insurance cover of Rs. 30 lakh on one-time non-refundable premium of Rs. 14,000/-. Lady/Gentleman Cadets during pre-commission training insured for Rs. 1.25 Cr.
- Representation on Answer Keys: Candidates can submit representations on question papers and provisional answer keys within 5 days (from 3rd day to 6:00 PM of 7th day after examination) via https://upsconline.nic.in.
- Tie-Breaking: (1) Higher written total; (2) Higher marks in Paper-II General Ability Test; (3) Senior in age; (4) Commission’s discretion.
