The selection of candidates is based on performance across four stages, meeting medical standards, and available vacancies.
- Stage-I: Computer Based Online Examination (CBE)

- Bilingual question paper (Hindi & English). No negative marking.
- Passing marks: UR/EWS/OBC – 40; SC/ST – 35.

- Eligibility: Open to Male and Female Indian Citizens. Persons with any kind of disability are not eligible to apply.
- Zone-wise Recruitment: Navik (GD) Male vacancies are distributed across 5 zones (North, West, East, South, Central). Separate merit lists will be prepared for each zone. All other posts are on All India basis.
- Medical Standards:
- Height: Male – minimum 157 cm; Female – minimum 152 cm. Relaxation of up to 5 cm for candidates from specified hilly/tribal regions; up to 2 cm for Ladakh, Lakshadweep & Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
- Chest: Male – minimum 77 cm with 5 cm expansion; Female – well proportioned with minimum 5 cm expansion.
- Tattoo: Not permitted on any part of the body except inner forearm (elbow to wrist) and dorsal side of hand (with exceptions for tribal communities).
- Visual Standards: GD – 6/6 (better), 6/9 (worse); Domestic Branch – 6/36 both; Yantrik – 6/24 both; Hygienist – 6/60 without glasses, 6/9 (better) 6/24 (worse) with glasses. Candidates using glasses not eligible for GD Branch.
- Pregnancy: Female candidates found pregnant will be disqualified.
- Gender reassignment surgery: Candidate will be declared Unfit.
- Training: Basic training for CGEPT-01/2027 commences May 2027 and CGEPT-02/2027 commences Nov 2027 at INS Chilka, followed by sea training and professional training.
