Selection Procedure

- Stage 1 – Preliminary Written Examination (Objective/MCQ): One paper of 200 marks, 100 questions, duration 2 hours. Topics: English, General Knowledge, Hindi Language, Reasoning, and Current Affairs. Each correct answer: 2 marks. Candidates scoring less than 30% will not be considered for the Main Exam. - Stage 2 – Main Written Examination:
- Paper 1 (Objective/MCQ): 200 questions, 200 marks, 3 hours. Subjects: General Studies & Current Affairs (50 marks), Mathematics & Quantitative Aptitude (40 marks), Reasoning & Analytical Ability (40 marks), English Language (20 marks), Hindi Language (20 marks), General Knowledge of Bihar (30 marks). Negative marking: 0.25 marks per wrong answer.
- Paper 2 (Descriptive): 50 marks, 1 hour. Subjects: Hindi Essay (15 marks), English Essay (15 marks), English Precis (10 marks), Hindi to English Translation (10 marks). Minimum 30% marks required in each paper.
Candidates up to 3 times the number of vacancies (category-wise, merit-based) will be shortlisted for Physical Efficiency Test.
- Stage 3 – Physical Efficiency Test (PET): Physical measurements (Height, Chest, Weight) as per prescribed standards. No marks awarded for physical standards. Candidates not meeting the standards will be disqualified.
- Height: General/OBC Male: min 165 cm; EBC/SC/ST Male: min 160 cm; All Female: min 155 cm.
- Chest (Male only): General/OBC/EBC: unexpanded 81 cm, expanded 86 cm; SC/ST: unexpanded 79 cm, expanded 84 cm. Minimum 5 cm expansion required.
- Weight (Female only): Minimum 48 kg.
- Merit List: Final merit list prepared based on marks obtained in the Main Written Examination (category-wise, merit order). Tie-breaking: by date of birth (older candidate ranked higher), then educational qualification, then name in Hindi alphabetical order as per Class 10 certificate.

- Reservation: Reservations applicable as per Bihar Reservation Act 1991 (Bihar Act 3, 1992) as amended from time to time. 35% horizontal reservation for women (only for women domiciled in Bihar State). 2% horizontal reservation for grandchildren/great-grandchildren of freedom fighters of Bihar (pensioned by Central Government).
- EWS Reservation: Applicable as per Bihar EWS Reservation Act 2019. Income and asset certificate for financial year 2025-2026 required. Certificate valid for one year from date of issue.
