Selection Procedure

Selection Procedure:
- Stage 1 – Written Examination (Offline-OMR Type): Objective type written test of 100 questions / 100 marks / 90 minutes. Conducted at district exam centres. Minimum qualifying marks: 30 out of 100. Negative marking: 0.25 marks deducted for each wrong answer.
- Stage 2 – Physical Standard Test (PST) & Endurance Test (ET): Candidates qualifying the written exam at a ratio of 1:5 (per vacancy) will be called. PST includes height, chest (male), and weight (female) standards. ET includes 1600m run (male) / 400m run (female), High Jump or Long Jump, and Shot Put. These are qualifying in nature only (no marks awarded).
- Stage 3 – Medical Examination: Candidates qualifying PST and ET will undergo medical examination. Only medically fit candidates are eligible for final appointment.
- Stage 4 – Final Selection: Candidates qualifying all stages will be shortlisted at a ratio of 1:2 per vacancy based on written exam marks. Final appointment is based on merit after medical examination as per Govt. Order dated 13.04.2026.
- Mandatory Kannada Language Test: Applicable for candidates who have not passed Kannada as first or second language at PUC/equivalent level. Minimum qualifying marks: 50 out of 150. Date to be notified after Written Exam result.

- Training: Candidates appointed through direct recruitment must undergo 9 months of basic foundational training at Police Training Schools (DIGI/IGPI). Candidates who fail to qualify in prescribed examinations during training will be dismissed from service.
- Probation Period: 2 years and 6 months after appointment through direct recruitment.
- Physical Standard Test (PST) Standards:
- Male (General) & Ex-Servicemen (Male): Height – 168 cm; Chest – 86 cm unexpanded, minimum 5 cm expansion.
- Female & Third Gender: Height – 157 cm; Minimum Weight – 45 kg.
- Budakattu Male (Forest Tribal): Height – 155 cm; Chest – not less than 75 cm overall, minimum 5 cm expansion.
- Budakattu Female (Forest Tribal): Height – 150 cm.
- Endurance Test (ET) Standards:
- Male & Ex-Servicemen (Male): 1600m run within 6 min 30 sec; High Jump ≥ 1.20m or Long Jump ≥ 3.80m; Shot Put (7.26 kg) ≥ 5.60m.
- Female, Third Gender & Ex-Servicemen (Female): 400m run within 2 min; High Jump ≥ 0.90m or Long Jump ≥ 2.50m; Shot Put (4 kg) ≥ 3.75m.
- Medical Examination Key Disqualifications: Distant vision below 6/9 (best eye) or 6/12 (other eye) without glasses; squint, colour blindness; hearing deficiency; varicose veins with flatfoot; speech impediment; knock knees, flat foot, bow legs, cubitus valgus/varus; any physical or mental deficiency hindering police duties.
- Kannada Language Requirement: Mandatory. Candidates who have not passed Kannada at PUC/equivalent level must pass a Kannada language test (minimum 50/150 marks). Karnataka Rajyotsava Kannada exam passers are exempted.
- OBC Creamy Layer: OBC candidates belonging to the Creamy Layer are NOT entitled to reservation and must apply under General Merit.
- Caste Certificates: Must be currently valid as on last date of application. SC/ST/Cat-1 certificates of any validity; OBC (Cat-2A/2B/3A/3B) certificates must be valid for 5 years. Only certificates obtained for employment purposes are considered.
