Selection Procedure

Selection Procedure:
- Fresher Category: Merit list will be prepared based on marks obtained in Matriculation (10th Class), converted to 200 marks, ensuring minimum 50% aggregate. In case of equal marks, the older candidate will be preferred; if date of birth is also same, the candidate who passed Matriculation earlier will be considered.
- Ex-ITI Category: Merit list will be prepared based on Matriculation marks converted to 100 marks (minimum 50% aggregate) + ITI marks converted to 100 marks. Total of 200 marks with equal weightage to both. Tie-breaking as above.
- MLT Category: Merit list based on Higher Secondary marks (Physics, Chemistry, Maths & Biology) converted to 200 marks, ensuring minimum 50% aggregate.
- Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates will be called for document verification. Original Transfer Certificate, Caste Certificate (if applicable), Disability Certificate (if applicable), OBC Non-Creamy Layer Certificate (if applicable) must be produced.
- Note: Minimum 50% marks in 10th standard is not applicable for SC/ST/PwBD candidates.

Important Information:
- Nature of Engagement: This notification is purely for Apprenticeship Training under the Apprentices Act, 1961 and NOT for employment. There is NO GUARANTEE OF EMPLOYMENT. The contract of apprenticeship will be terminated on completion of training.
- Employment Preference: 20% of vacancies in Direct Recruitment to Level 1 posts may be filled giving preference to Course Completed Act Apprentices (CCAAs) trained in railway establishments and possessing National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC).
- Geographical Eligibility: Only candidates residing in the geographical jurisdiction of Southern Railway are eligible: Whole Tamil Nadu, Whole Puducherry, Whole Kerala, Whole Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep Islands, SPSR Nellore and Chittoor districts of Andhra Pradesh, and Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka.
- Age Relaxation: OBC (NCL): 3 years; SC/ST: 5 years; PwBD (UR/EWS): 10 years; PwBD+OBC: 13 years; PwBD+SC/ST: 15 years.
- PwBD Reservation: 4% reservation for five categories of benchmark disability. Minimum 40% benchmark disability required for reservation benefits.
- Stipend Increment: 10% increase in stipend during second year and 15% increase during third year of apprenticeship training.
- Training Period: Fresher – Welder: 1 Year 3 months; Fitter & Painter: 2 Years; MLT (Cardiology, Radiology & Pathology): 1 Year 3 months. Ex-ITI: Rebate in duration as per Schedule-I of Apprentices Rules 1992.
- Ineligible Candidates: Course Completed Act Apprentices, Engineering Graduates, Diploma Holders, or Vocational Certificate holders with one year or more training/job experience after attainment of qualifications are NOT eligible.
- Accommodation: Selected candidates are responsible for arranging their own accommodation and other facilities.
- Withdrawal: Candidates selected for training will not be allowed to withdraw except for reasons beyond their control. Willful absentees must refund the full cost of training and stipend received.
- Total Vacancies: Fresher Grand Total: 163 | Ex-ITI Grand Total: 4308 | Overall Total: 4471 (tentative, subject to change).
