- Written Examination: Objective type Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) with 4 options each. No negative marking.
- Paper I (Primary Level – Class 1 to 5): 150 MCQs, 150 marks, Duration: 2.5 hours (150 minutes). Subjects: Child Development & Teaching Methods (30), Language I – Hindi (30), Language II – English/Urdu/Sanskrit (30), Mathematics (30), Environmental Studies (30).
- Paper II (Upper Primary Level – Class 6 to 8): 150 MCQs, 150 marks, Duration: 2.5 hours (150 minutes). Subjects: Child Development & Teaching Methods (30), Language I – Hindi (30), Language II – English/Urdu/Sanskrit (30), Subject Specific – Mathematics & Science / Social Studies / Any other (60).
- Qualifying Marks: General/EWS: 60% (90 out of 150); SC/ST/OBC/EWS/Freedom Fighter Dependents/Ex-Servicemen/Divyang: 55% (82 out of 150).
- If exam is held in multiple shifts/days, normalization of scores will be applied for comparative evaluation.

- Certificate Validity: UPTET certificate is valid for lifetime from the date of result declaration for all categories.
- Certificate Distribution: UPTET certificate will be distributed electronically through DigiLocker.
- Applicability: UPTET qualified candidates are eligible for appointment in government schools, local body schools, aided schools, and schools affiliated with national boards in Uttar Pradesh at primary (Class 1-5) and upper primary (Class 6-8) levels.
- UPTET is only an eligibility criterion and does not confer any right to appointment/employment.
- Scribe facility: Available for completely blind/physically disabled candidates unable to write. Scribe must be brought by the candidate. Scribe’s qualification should not exceed Intermediate level of the same year as the exam.
- Extra time for Divyang: 30 additional minutes for completely blind/physically unable to write candidates. Divyang candidates with 40% or more disability get special reservation benefits.
- Unfair means: Action under UP Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act 2024 (Notification No. 338/79-V-1-2024) including debarment from future exams.
