Selection Procedure

Selection Procedure:

  1. Screening: Applications will be scrutinized by a duly constituted Screening Committee. Candidates fulfilling all eligibility criteria will be shortlisted for Trade Test.
  2. Trade Test (Qualifying in Nature): Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a Trade Test in the relevant trade/discipline. Qualifying the Trade Test is mandatory to appear in the Written Examination.
  3. Written Examination (Competitive): Candidates qualifying the Trade Test will appear in a competitive written examination consisting of three papers:
    • Paper-I (Qualifying, 1 hour): Mental Ability Test – 50 questions, 100 marks (2 marks per correct answer), No Negative Marking. Minimum threshold marks to be determined by Selection Committee.
    • Paper-II (30 minutes): General Awareness – 25 questions, 75 marks (3 marks per correct answer, -1 for wrong); English Language – 25 questions, 75 marks (3 marks per correct answer, -1 for wrong). Evaluated only for candidates qualifying Paper-I.
    • Paper-III (1 hour): Concerned Subject/Trade – 50 questions, 150 marks (3 marks per correct answer, -1 for wrong). Evaluated only for candidates qualifying Paper-I.
  4. Merit List: Final merit list prepared based on total marks obtained in Paper-II and Paper-III combined.
  5. Mode: OMR Based or Computer Based Objective Type Multiple Choice Examination. Questions set in both English and Hindi (except English Language paper). Standard: SSC + ITI/XIIth Standard. Total Questions: 150. Total Time: 2 hours 30 minutes.
  6. Tie-Breaking: In case of tie, resolved by: (I) Higher marks in concerned subject/trade paper; (II) Lesser negative marks in concerned subject/trade paper; (III) Lesser negative marks in merit papers; (IV) Older date of birth; (V) Earlier acquisition of essential degree; (VI) Alphabetical order of first name.

  3. Attach a recent passport-size self-signed colour photograph on Part I of the application form.
  4. Attach a recent passport-size colour photograph (not signed) on Part II of the application form.
  5. Attach self-attested copies of all required documents: Date of Birth certificate, educational certificates/mark sheets, caste certificate (if applicable), experience certificates, EWS/PwBD/Ex-Serviceman/Transgender certificate (if applicable).
  6. Attach a Demand Draft of Rs. 500/- (if applicable) in favour of ‘Director, National Physical Laboratory’, payable at New Delhi, drawn on any nationalized bank valid for at least 3 months. Write candidate’s name and post code on the back of the DD.
  7. Candidates working in Government/CSIR/Autonomous Bodies/PSUs must apply through proper channel with employer’s endorsement/NOC.

  • Probation Period: Selected candidates will be on probation for 2 years from the date of joining. Probation may be extended or curtailed at the discretion of the Competent Authority.
  • Transfer: Selected candidates may be transferred to any CSIR Lab/Institute anywhere in India as per requirement.
