Selection Procedure

Selection Procedure:
Stage-I: Written Examination
Objective type multiple choice questions of 120 marks, duration 2 hours (120 minutes) on OMR sheets.
- English: 30 marks
- General Knowledge: 10 marks
- General Aptitude: 10 marks
- Knowledge in Law: 50 marks
- Assamese Language Proficiency: 20 marks
A candidate must secure at least 40% marks (i.e., 8 out of 20) in the Assamese Language Proficiency segment to qualify. However, marks in Assamese Language Proficiency shall not be counted in the merit list.
Stage-II: Interview/Viva-Voce
30 marks. Candidates in the ratio of 1:3 in order of merit in the written examination will be called for interview and document verification. A candidate must secure at least 60% marks (i.e., 18 out of 30) in the interview to be considered qualified.
Final Merit List: Prepared on the basis of total marks obtained in Written Examination (Stage-I) and Interview/Viva-Voce (Stage-II). In case of tie, preference to candidate with higher marks in written examination; if still tied, senior in age gets preference.

- The post is purely contractual and temporary in nature.
- The tenure would be initially for 2 years, extendable by 1 year.
- The engagement may be terminated at any time without assigning any reason if recommended by the Judge under whom the Law Clerk has been working.
- The Law Clerk shall not practice Law in any courts or undertake legal service to any client during tenure.
- OBC/MOBC candidates must produce a valid non-creamy layer certificate at the time of document verification.
- Merely satisfying eligibility criteria does not entitle a candidate to be called for written examination/interview.
- No TA/DA shall be paid for appearing in any stage of the selection process.
- The High Court reserves the right to cancel the advertisement or alter any terms and conditions at any stage.
- Candidates who already applied under the earlier advertisement dated 18-03-2026 need not apply again.
- Answer keys will be uploaded on the official website after the examination.
