Stage 1: Competitive Written Examination (Offline OMR Type)
- Paper 1 – General Paper: 300 Marks | 2 Hours | Topics: Current Affairs, General Science, Karnataka History & Geography, Indian History & Geography, Social Science, General Mental Ability, Indian Constitution, Public Administration & Rural Development, Science & Technology, International Relations and Economy, Environmental Science, Logical Reasoning, Day-to-day Consumer topics, and Practical Knowledge.
- Paper 2 – Specific Paper: 300 Marks | 2 Hours | Syllabus to be announced separately.
- Minimum qualifying marks: 35 out of 300 in the competitive examination.
- Negative Marking: 0.75 marks deducted for every wrong answer.
Stage 2: Kannada Language Test
- Conducted by Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (SSLC Board) or a State Government recognized test.
- Minimum qualifying marks: 50 out of 150 in the Kannada Language Test.
- Candidates who studied Kannada as first/second language up to SSLC or studied in Kannada medium from Class 1 to Class 10 are exempted.
- Marks in Kannada Test will NOT be counted for merit ranking.

- Probation Period: 2 years for candidates selected through direct recruitment.
- National Pension Scheme (NPS): Applicable as per Government Order No. FD(SPIL) 04 PIT 2005 dated 31.03.2006.
- OBC Reservation: As per Government Order (DPAR Services-2 No. 02 Sehime 2026 dated 13.05.2026), candidates from 59 specified OBC castes who have not earlier availed OBC reservation are eligible for reservation. Within those 59 castes, only 4 castes’ eligible candidates may additionally avail Category-1 reservation.
- Rural Candidate Reservation: Candidates must have studied and passed from Class 1 to Class 10 in rural areas of Karnataka. Form-1 (General) or Form-2 (SC/ST/OBC/PwD) certificate required from Tahsildar.
- Kannada Medium Reservation: Candidates who studied from Class 1 to Class 10 in Kannada Medium are eligible for KMS reservation. Certificate from Head Master required.
- PwD Reservation: Minimum 40% disability required. UDID certificate or certificate from District Medical Authority accepted.
- Transgender Reservation: 1% horizontal reservation in all groups. Certificate from District Magistrate required as per Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act 2019.
- Ex-Serviceman Reservation: 10% horizontal reservation in direct recruitment posts.
