Selection Procedure

Selection Procedure:

  1. Preliminary Examination (Objective Type & Multiple Choice): Two compulsory papers of 200 marks each, 2 hours duration. Paper-I (General Studies-I): 150 questions, 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. Paper-II (General Studies-II): 100 questions, 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM. Paper-II is qualifying with minimum 33% marks. Merit determined on Paper-I marks only. Negative marking: 1/3 marks deducted for wrong answers.
  2. Main (Written) Examination (Conventional Type): Consists of 8 compulsory papers: General Hindi (150 marks), Essay (150 marks), General Studies Papers I to VI (200 marks each). Total 1500 marks. Minimum efficiency standard: SC/ST – 35%, Others – 40%. Candidates qualifying Preliminary Examination (15 times the vacancies) are called for Main Examination.
  3. Viva-Voce (Personality Test): 100 marks. Only candidates declared successful in Main Examination (3 times the vacancies) are called for Interview. Preferences for different posts will be asked at the time of Interview.
  4. Final Selection: Based on total marks obtained in Main (Written) Examination and Interview. For some posts, recruitment is based on written examination marks only as per concerned service rules.

  1. Obtain One Time Registration (OTR) number from https://otr.pariksha.nic.in at least 72 hours before submitting the online application.
  2. Visit the Commission’s website https://uppsc.up.nic.in and click on ‘ALL NOTIFICATIONS/ADVERTISEMENTS’.
  3. Click on ‘Apply’ for the relevant advertisement and authenticate with your OTR number via OTP or OTR password.
  4. Complete Application Part-1: Personal details will be auto-populated from OTR. Fill in essential qualification details.
  5. Complete Application Part-2 (Second Stage): Submit permanent and correspondence address and choose Yes/No for preferential qualifications.
  6. Complete Fee Payment (Third Stage): Pay the prescribed examination fee via SBI MOPS using Net Banking, Card Payments, or Other Payment Modes. Take a printout of the Payment Transaction Slip.
  7. Complete Final Submission (Fourth Stage): The application form will be displayed on screen. Take a printout and keep it safe.
  8. Candidates may modify qualifications once till the last date for correction/modification by logging into Candidate Dashboard.

  • OTR Mandatory: One Time Registration (OTR) is mandatory before applying. OTR number must be obtained at least 72 hours before the last date of application from https://otr.pariksha.nic.in.
  • Age Limit: Minimum 21 years and Maximum 40 years as on 01/07/2026 (born between 02/07/1986 and 01/07/2005). For PH candidates, maximum age is 55 years. For Principal, Government Intermediate College: Min 30 years, Max 40 years.
  • Age Relaxation: SC/ST/OBC/Skilled Players/State Govt. Employees of UP: 5 years relaxation. PH of UP: 15 years relaxation. Ex-Army Personnel of UP: 3 years + period of Army service. Chief Minister Fellowship Research Scholars: up to 3 years relaxation.
  • Physical Standards: Applicable for posts of DSP, Superintendent of Jail, District Commandant Home Guards, Excise Inspector, Deputy Jailor, District Youth Welfare and Pradeshik Vikash Dal Officer as per specified measurements.
  • Reservation: Applicable for SC/ST/OBC/EWS/Dependents of Freedom Fighters/Female/Ex-Servicemen/PH/Outstanding Sports Persons of UP as per relevant Govt. Rules. Candidates not permanently domiciled in UP are not entitled to reservation/age relaxation benefits.
