- Commission Type: Short Service Commission (SSC) initially for 10 years, extendable by maximum 04 years in 02 terms (02+02 years), subject to service requirement, performance, medical eligibility, and willingness.
- Permanent Commission: Option of permanent commission is not applicable to selected officers.
- Training: Candidates will be inducted as Sub Lieutenant and will undergo a six-week Naval Orientation Course at Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala, Kerala, followed by professional training at Naval Ships and training establishments.
- Marital Status: Only unmarried candidates are eligible. Candidates found married or who marry during training will be discharged and liable to refund all pay, allowances, and training costs.
- Probation Period: Two years from the date of grant of rank of Sub Lieutenant.
- Insurance: All officers/cadets will be compulsory members of the Naval Group Insurance Scheme (NGIS).
- Travel Allowance: AC 3-tier rail fare is admissible for SSB interview if appearing for the first time for a particular type of commission.
- Narcotics: Use/possession of narcotics is banned. Candidates may be tested at any stage of selection, training, or service.
