Selection Procedure:

  1. Preliminary Written Examination: Comprising multiple-choice objective type questions for short-listing candidates. Marks secured in this examination will not be considered for final selection.
  2. Main Written Examination: Shall comprise of two papers, each carrying 100 marks and having a duration of 3 hours. The medium of examination shall be English. Candidates must secure not less than 50% marks in each paper (45% for backward communities and/or persons with disability) to be eligible for Viva-voce.
  3. Viva-voce: Carries 50 marks. Only candidates obtaining at least 40% of marks in viva-voce (35% for persons with disability) shall be eligible for selection.
  4. Final Selection: Will be made strictly on merit based on the cumulative marks secured by the candidates in the Main Written Examination and Viva-voce.
  5. Medical Fitness & Character Verification: No person selected shall be appointed unless certified medically fit and found suitable in all respects for appointment.

Knowledge of Marathi: A candidate must have sufficient knowledge of Marathi to enable him/her to speak, read, write and translate with facility from Marathi into English and vice-versa.
Probation Period: The candidate, if selected, will be appointed initially on probation for a period of two years.
Bond Requirement: The selected candidate will have to execute a Bond in the sum of Rs.2,00,000/- (Rupees Two Lakhs only) to work on the post for a period of 3 years from the date of joining, in default the candidate himself/herself, his/her legal heirs, legal representatives, executors and assignees will be liable to pay/forfeit to the Government of Maharashtra the said amount.
Undertaking for Practice Restriction: At the time of appointment, the selected candidate will have to give an undertaking that for a period of two years from the date on which he/she ceases to be in service, he/she will not practice in any Court over which he/she had presided over or the Courts subordinate thereto.
How to Apply:

  • Candidates shall submit their applications On-line only through the High Court website https://bombayhighcourt.nic.in.
  • Before filling the online application, candidates must have their latest passport size photograph and signature duly scanned in separate files in “.jpg” format. Each file size shall not exceed 40KB.
  • Attach the scanned photograph and signature at the appropriate places in the online application form.
  • After pressing “I Agree” button, a “Registration ID” will be generated. Candidates must note down this ID for future reference.
  • After successful online payment of fees, candidates should mention the generated SBCollect Reference Number correctly in the relevant space (Column No. 40) in the online application form.

These documents must be submitted in an envelope superscribed with “Application for the post of District Judge – 2025” by Registered Post A.D./Courier/Speed Post only, to reach the Office of “The Registrar (Legal & Research), 105, 1st Floor, PWD Building, High Court, Fort, Mumbai – 400 032” on or before Wednesday, 25th February, 2026.
Application Correction Procedure: In the event of committing any mistake in filling up the on-line application form, the candidates shall not fill in a fresh application but shall send an e-mail from the e-mail id mentioned in his application to: [email protected] , quoting the concerned column number containing incorrect / erroneous information and the correct information in lieu thereof. In the subject of the e-mail, candidates shall mention “A.5504/2025 – Registration ID (mention Registration Id here)” . No e-mail for correction of entries shall be entertained unless a candidate has submitted on-line application. No such e-mail shall be entertained after the cut-off date and time of filling on-line application.
Examination Centers: The Preliminary Written Examination will be conducted at Mumbai, Nagpur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Kolhapur. Candidates must specifically mention their choice of center in the application form.
Special Instructions / Guidelines for Persons with Disability (PwD):

Category Details
Eligibility for Scribe/Reader Candidate with at least 40% benchmark disability (RPwD Act, 2016) or person with disability (S.2(s) RPwD Act, 2016) having difficulty in writing. Must hold valid Disability Certificate / UDID Card and ‘A Certificate Regarding Physical Limitation in an Examinee (person with disability as per the RPwD Act, 2016) to Write’ (Form 1).
Scribe/Reader Arrangement Candidate shall arrange services of scribe / reader on his own cost. High Court will not provide.
Scribe/Reader Qualification Must have studied at least upto matriculation but not beyond graduation of any stream, especially not law.
Compensatory Time Not exceeding 30 minutes for Preliminary Written Examination and not exceeding 1 hour for Main Written Examination.
Required Forms for Scribe/Reader True copy of Disability Certificate /UDID card, Form 1, Form 2 (Undertaking for Own Scribe), Form 3A (Joint Certificate with Scribe), Form 3B (Joint Certificate with Reserved Scribe).
